Salt-N-Pepa
The story so far
Their suit to reclaim master recordings from UMG was dismissed in January — Judge Cote ruled they never owned the copyrights under their 1986 Next Plateau deal, so there was nothing to terminate under the Copyright Act's reversion window. The fight is now at the Second Circuit Court of Appeals, and UMG's newest brief repeats the same contract-text argument that already won once. Watch for the Second Circuit's schedule — no oral argument date yet — and whether Salt-N-Pepa's team finds a new legal theory beyond re-arguing ownership.
